Türkiye’s Statistical Institute (TUIK) has released its latest report on the country’s happiest cities, ranking Sinop as the city with the highest level of happiness. According to the data, Sinop, a coastal city located on the Black Sea, topped the list with a reported happiness rate of 77.66%.

Following Sinop, Afyonkarahisar, situated in the central part of Türkiye, ranked second with a happiness rate of 76.43%. Bayburt, located in the northeast, secured third place with a 75.91% happiness rate.

TUIK’s survey identified the top ten happiest cities in the country, based on their happiness rates. These are:

Located on the Black Sea coast, Sinop is one of Türkiye’s oldest cities, known for its scenic harbor, pristine beaches, and rich history. The city was an important naval base in ancient times and is home to the historic Sinop Fortress. Sinop’s blend of natural beauty, quiet life, and historical significance has made it a top destination for tourists seeking tranquility. The city’s peaceful environment and connection to nature likely play a role in the high happiness rates reported by its residents.

2. Afyonkarahisar – 76.43% happiness rate

Afyonkarahisar, located in central Türkiye, is renowned for its thermal baths and healing waters, making it a popular destination for wellness tourism. The city is also famous for its culinary specialties, particularly Afyon sucuk (spiced sausage) and kaymak (clotted cream). With its blend of historical landmarks, such as the towering Afyon Castle, and its reputation as a center for health tourism, Afyonkarahisar offers a unique lifestyle balancing tradition and modernity.

3. Bayburt – 75.91% happiness rate

4. Kirikkale – 75.48% happiness rate

Once a key industrial center during Türkiye’s rapid modernization, Kirikkale is located in central Türkiye and is known for its defense industry. The city has recently developed into a more family-oriented place with improved infrastructure and parks. 10. Sirnak – 71.36% happiness rate

Sirnak has been rebuilding and emerging as a prosperous city in southeastern Türkiye.
