Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will visit Türkiye on Aug. 14-15 and address the Turkish Parliament.

Fahrettin Altun, head of the Presidency’s Directorate of Communications, announced on his official X (formerly Twitter) account that Abbas will visit Türkiye.

“Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will pay a visit to Türkiye on August 14-15.

On Wednesday, August 14, Mr. Abbas will meet with our President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and on Thursday, August 15, he will address the General Assembly of our Gazi Parliament,” Altun said.

Abbas’ visit to Türkiye is highly significant, coming after Israel’s assassination of Ismail Haniyeh.

On Sunday, Erdogan said at his party’s Rize Provincial Organization meeting that they had invited Abbas, but the Palestinian president failed to respond positively. “We will carry out the next process accordingly,” Erdogan said.

Three days after Erdogan’s statement, it was announced that Abbas would visit Türkiye.
