Palestinian National Council Chairman Rawhi Fattouh said Israel’s decision to seize nearly 7 dunams of Palestinian land in Jenin in the northern occupied West Bank amounted to “ethnic cleansing.”
In a written statement, Fattouh condemned the Israeli authorities’ decision to seize land in the al-Jabriyyat area, which overlooks the Jenin refugee camp, for what was described as “military purposes.”
Fattouh said Israel’s seizure of Palestinian land constituted “ethnic cleansing and a war crime” against the Palestinian people.
Fattouh said Israel’s land seizure policy, carried out alongside attacks by Israelis who seize Palestinian land, aimed to create what he called a “settler-colonial reality” in the area.
He called on the international community to focus on Israel’s policies of unlawfully taking Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank.
Fattouh also urged “practical and deterrent measures” to stop what he called Israel’s crimes and to treat it as an apartheid regime that systematically violates international law and human rights.
Local sources said Israeli authorities had decided to seize 7 dunams of land in the al-Jabriyyat area for “military purposes.”
The land is located within Area A, which is fully under Palestinian administration under the Second Oslo Accord, according to the sources.
Under the Second Oslo Accord, the West Bank is divided into Areas A, B and C.
Area A is under full Palestinian control. Area B is under Palestinian civil administration and Israeli security control. Area C is fully under Israeli control and makes up about 60% of the West Bank.
The Israeli army has continued attacks in the northern West Bank since Jan. 21, 2025.
The attacks first began in the Jenin camp and later spread to the Tulkarem and Nur Shams camps.
Hundreds of homes have been demolished, and more than 50,000 Palestinians have been displaced as a result of the attacks.
The Israeli army has forcibly prevented Palestinians from returning to their homes, while some homes have been seized and turned into military posts.
The Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission, affiliated with the Palestine Liberation Organization, said in a report last month that Israel had seized 42 dunams of Palestinian land through military orders.
The report said six separate orders were issued for security and military purposes aimed to open security roads in Bethlehem, Tubas and Jenin and create a buffer zone around the Sanur settlement.
