Istanbul is heading into a warmer and mostly dry weekend, although brief local rain may affect parts of the city on Saturday (May 9).
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Disaster Coordination Center, known as AKOM, said in its May 7 report that temperatures will rise toward early summer levels, with mostly sunny and partly cloudy weather expected across the city.
AKOM said no significant rainfall is expected during the week, apart from light local showers.
The main exception in the weekend forecast is Saturday, when local rain of around 1 to 3 kilograms per square meter is expected, while Sunday is forecast to be dry and partly cloudy.
Thursday’s forecast shows a mild start to the day, with temperatures around 12 degrees Celsius in the morning before rising to 23 degrees Celsius at noon.
Evening temperatures are expected to fall to 14 degrees Celsius, while night temperatures are forecast at 13 degrees Celsius.
Humidity is expected to range between 45% and 75%, while winds will blow from the southwest, known locally as “lodos,” at around 5 to 20 kilometers per hour. AKOM said no rainfall is expected for Thursday, and the sea surface temperature was listed at 12 degrees Celsius.
Friday is expected to be one of the warmer days of the week, with temperatures rising to 24 degrees Celsius. AKOM forecasts partly cloudy to slightly cloudy weather, with no rainfall expected.
The main weather interruption is expected on Saturday, when Istanbul may see local rain despite temperatures remaining relatively mild.
AKOM forecasts a minimum temperature of 14 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 23 degrees, with partly cloudy and locally rainy conditions.
The expected rainfall amount for Saturday is between 1 and 3 kilograms per square meter, indicating light local precipitation rather than a major weather event.
Conditions are forecast to improve again on Sunday, with partly cloudy skies and no rain expected. Temperatures are expected to range between 13 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius.
According to AKOM’s weekly outlook, Monday and Tuesday will also remain partly cloudy or slightly cloudy, with no rainfall expected.
A second spell of rain may arrive on Wednesday, when temperatures are forecast to fall to 18 degrees Celsius, and intermittent rain could bring 3 to 7 kilograms of precipitation per square meter.
