Nasreddin Hodja Festival brings cultures together in Eskisehir

The picturesque town of Sivrihisar in Eskisehir hosted the eighth International Nasreddin Hodja Culture and Arts Festival, a celebration drawing participants and audiences from around the world.

This festival honors Nasreddin Hodja, a 13th-century Seljuk satirist and philosopher known for his witty anecdotes and humorous tales that impart moral lessons.

The festival began with a traditional ceremony where a symbolic Nasreddin Hodja, portrayed by Omer Ozgeneci, stirred yogurt into the Bagbasi Pond, embodying the legendary humorist’s famous tale.

Embracing Turkish cultural heritage through Nasreddin Hodja

Sivrihisar Mayor Habil Dokmeci and Gunyuzi District Governor Muhammed Rasit Kurt participated in the opening event. “We hope this festival brings peace to all nations,” said Kurt, expressing his best wishes for the event.

Ozgeneci added, “Every year, we make a wish as we stir the yogurt. This year, our hope is to leave a peaceful, healthy, and happy world for our children.”

Parade of cultures

The festival continued with a colorful parade through Eskisehir’s city center. Dancers from six countries – Türkiye, Kosovo, Mexico, Bulgaria, Ukraine, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus – performed in the procession from Yilmaz Buyukersen Boulevard to Vilayet Square. The vibrant performances captivated the audience, earning widespread applause.

The festival, running until July 7, features an array of activities. June 5 marks the start of the concert series, with popular Turkish singer Tugce Kandemir performing at the Open-Air Sculpture Museum.

This venue will host various events, including symposiums, exhibitions and workshops, providing entertainment for all ages. Children can enjoy dedicated play areas and numerous interactive activities.

Concerts and dance performances

Over the coming days, attendees can look forward to more concerts from notable Turkish artists, including Oguzhan Koc and Haluk Levent. Dance performances from international groups will continue to captivate the audience, showcasing the rich cultural diversity present at the festival.

The Nasreddin Hodja International Festival has become a significant event in Sivrihisar, reflecting the town’s commitment to celebrating cultural heritage and promoting international unity through the arts.
